Eating for NOW
Got a question for ya?
What's in season where you are? Any ideas?
Don't worry it's not a test, it's just a simple question that brings awareness to the fact that we've lost our connection to our own seasons!
It used to be that food was a great way of getting a sense for what time of year it was. These days... not so much. Our food is brought in from all over the world and as a result, our close connection to the now gets a little... broken.
Ayurveda has a beautiful term satmya which means the things that create balance within us. In this context it can refer to the foods that restore the balance throughout the year.
Eating local and seasonal throughout the year connects us to the environment around us and is in itself medicine, which gives a whole new richness to the idea of eating local.
So... if you're not sure what's in season where you are (regardless of what you might find in the grocery stores), check out one of these lovely online guides for help. Also support your local community, synchronize your mind and body with the seasons, and honor your connection to your environment by picking up something yummy from your local farmers market!
